Happy Birthday Nicole Oliver! :iconpartycannonplz:
-I'm trying out a bit of a new style here, so I'm actually gonna ask for some honest critiques on this one. [Critiques in the comments are fine too]

--This is one of my first times using Paint tool SAI. Combined with my new graphics tablet, sketching feels extremely smooth and I like how this one turned out. I may do more "Graphic-novelish" projects like this in the near future.

Ignore my ratings, cause it's my first time doing this :\ xD
I really love how it looks a lot. I love how it looks foggy, and that her mane is only one color. To me, it almost looks like this image is in between the current time in MLP and before whatever happened 1000 years ago with Discord and Sombra.

The wings look good, even though they aren't in show style. I would've left the second shorter row out, but either way it looks fine.

The crown's got a weird look though, like it's in a weird perspective. But as an artist myself, I competely understand how hard it is to get things perfect.

Overall though, it looks great, and is one of my favorite images now. ^^

Ok, how do I put this? I first saw this work in the messages section and I gotta tell it looks AMAZING . . .

First I notice the coloring, so simple . . . but its got touch, Celestia's coloring is what captivates me the most here, the coloring of the areas where there is shadow, and how simple it is, so is that bit of fog in the scenery.

Next, I notice the lines, how splendid of how you made her hair, feathers and the "scaly" tiles on the towers and evel the metalwork holding the crystalline ball on top, or whatever it is. .

I also love how you made those shadows and where it sun's rays are supposed to be in, I can also notice sun rays through the piece, giving me that "through my eyes" view of this, the windy conditions also give the life I'm trying to find in it

Man, I gotta tell you that this may not be the only things I can tell you, but I'm amazed with your work from almost every detail. Sorry if this critique I'm giving is kinda bad, because this is the first time I've ever done one. . .

Anyway, awesome and I love it :)

I love the detail you were able to put into the feathers while still keeping it within a cartoony, show-like style! The soft colors make the picture and Celestia seem young, which is what you were going for, I'm sure, right? The soft lines help to make the picture feel relaxed and peaceful, and her mane flows along beautifully in a wind that, while we cannot see it, we can feel through the details.

wonderful piece! +fav'd

So what's with the gray mane?
RegolithX Featured By Owner Feb 18, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
A lot of people commonly draw Celestia with a pinkish-gray mane when she was "Younger". I liked the idea for this particular project...

Plus I REALLY didn't want to draw her multicolored mane here.

Wonderful, I say! I love this style! The somewhat desaturated, pastel colours feel good here, they help create a "soft" atmosphere. Lovely detail on the wings, just enough to make the feathers unique and, well, detailed. Lovely hair, I really like the individual strands streaming in the wind. And I just love this soft smile and closed eye she has here. And the vista of Canterlot's rooftops is coloured nicely, as well. I like the exact choice of colour and ornamentation.
Looking at this, I believe I know what sort of shading I will be trying myself, as I'm a novice artist and would be completely at sea in dozens-of-tones-of-shading techniques as of now. The two-tone one here works perfectly, better than a more complex one could. Its beauty is in its simplicity.
Well done, well done indeed!

I like the idea and lines are pretty smooth, but I think adding some more spot colors (gold on crown and 'necklace', for example) wouldn't look bad. Adding just a bit more lines in her tail will make it look less simple and more like hairy tail. Monochrome version is very good, but seeing it in full colours would be great!

I like the look of this one. Though I think maybe adding all of one color would help with the overall look of the picture, like add all of the gold hues or something similar. Over all still an amazing picture that in mt opinion looks fine the way it is.
